We accept walk-ins during office hours, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Appointments are preferred and take about an hour if the test is positive and 30-40 minutes if the pregnancy test is negative. When coming for a free pregnancy test, please bring a copy of your driver’s license or other photo ID to be placed in your record for identification purposes.
We use medical quality pregnancy test kits which have 97%-99% accuracy, depending on how far along the pregnancy is. All services are free and confidential.
- If the test is positive, the patient is informed of all medical and non-medical services, provided with a verification of positive test with notice prepared for accessing Pregnancy Medicaid, given trial prenatal vitamins, and precautions of tubal (ectopic) pregnancy and of miscarriage. The verification of pregnancy letter can be used at the closest ER if symptoms of these pregnancy complications occur prior to access to Pregnancy Medicaid. All women with a positive pregnancy test also receive a list of OB-GYN practices in surrounding counties and their access information and care providers (such as nurse midwives or women’s health nurse practitioners, and physicians).
- If the pregnancy test is negative, the nurse will provide a form which explains why the test might be negative. Often this is because the person has come in too early for the pregnancy hormone to be showing up in the urine sample and another free appointment is made based on the woman’s last menstruation date. Based on medical signs and symptoms of pregnancy, a plan of care will be provided.
All women with a positive pregnancy test are provided with documents referring her to the appropriate site for accessing Pregnancy Medicaid and WIC (which stands for Women, Infants, and Children) a federal program that provides food vouchers for pregnant women and for their child, when born. This service is most frequently located at the County’s Health Department. WIC‘s services also include assisting with women who plan to breastfeed their child. Access to Pregnancy Medicaid may depend on the county of residence.
